PICTURE THIS, you will be happy to know, is run by two highly experienced photographers who are well entrenched in the photography scene here in New Zealand. Each has a different eye, a different style and different photography genres, though both share their passion for landscape photography and are on the same page in terms of their core photographic belief systems. It’s why they work so well together. Rina is the encourager, nurturer, motivator, and reminder of keeping things simple; while Neil brings a wealth of technical know-how and creative skill to the process of image-making. So they actually have quite different roles in the Picture This experience, which makes for a balanced, well rounded team and the best of both worlds for their clients.
Rina Sjardin-Thompson
Rina has worked full time as a photographer for the last 8 years covering equestrian, rural and other events, weddings, sports, commercial, families and portraiture, along with her absolute favourite - landscapes. She is prolific in her production and sale of images, spending most of the year on the road travelling with her photography business. Her images have been widely used for magazines, splash-backs, wallpapers, canvasses, framed prints, advertising and business marketing.
Facebook is her office, gallery and portfolio, and this is where you can find her, keep up to date with what she’s doing, where she’s going and who she is, uploading to her pages almost daily.
She comes from a place of simplicity - her style is simple, her eye is simple and her image processing is simple. From her you will learn how to NOT over-edit a photograph, and how to create and run a photography business if this is the direction you are wanting to go in.

Neil Protheroe
Originally from the UK, Neil has been photographing from a very early age, learning first on an all-mechanical Kodak Retinette camera from the 1950s and then throughout the modern film era which introduced built-in light meters, zoom lenses and autofocus; and now, of course, the latest digital equipment.
Coming from the world of film photography, Neil is a purposeful, meticulous shooter and editor of his images. He has over 10 years experience in organising, hosting and leading photography workshops and private photography tours, and is the New Zealand professional guide for the leading workshop operator in the USA, Muench Workshops.
He has a talent for bringing out the light and colour of his images, developing his own style of recognisable imagery. He has been widely published in magazines and news journals. Tourism New Zealand has featured several of Neil’s images in its international marketing campaigns.
